Does Soulmates Really Exist?

Does Soulmates Really Exist? Recently, I couldn’t help but note how a soul mate may often be conceptualized as an individual’s “other half to their whole,” synchronizing with Plato’s theory. It could mean different to all people but does Soulmates really exist or we’re just playing with our minds?

A news article on PsychicOz even relayed that those who perceive their partner as their soul mate, as being part of that kind of unity, were more dissatisfied in their relationship when conflict arose. After all, if you are with your soul mate, the perfect counterpart, why should trouble even surface? Couples who viewed their relationship as a journey, a journey that involves continual growth, were happier.

I’ve always been fascinated by the notion of soul mates, and these recent reads propelled me to research various perspectives on the subject matter. Here are three very interesting theories, which may not receive widespread attention.

The Karmic Connection:

“A true soul mate is probably the most important person you’ll ever meet, because they tear down your walls and smack you awake,” author Elizabeth Gilbert said. “But to live with a soul mate forever? Nah. Too painful. Soul mates, they come into your life just to reveal another layer of yourself to you, and then leave.”

Is Gilbert conveying a karmic soul mate connection in this context? I certainly think so. Karmic connections tend to be challenging and difficult; they may even incorporate unhealthy dynamics and toxic patterns. Regardless, it’s a pivotal relationship that embodies invaluable life lessons.

“They come into your life to teach you something,” Debbie Nagioff, a working clairvoyant, said in her post, “The Twin Soul Connection.”

“A lesson has to be learned and a debt repaid. This can be extremely painful, but necessary for our spiritual growth. Once the lesson is learned, the relationship has done its job.”

Karmic soul mates come into your life in order to bring attention to yourself, to experience a connection that’s incredibly personal and impactful, but they do not stay.

The Soul Mate Connection (Another Perspective):

An article posted on Ultimate Truth Of Self (“All About Karmic Relationship, Soul Mates and Twin Flames”), discusses various soul mate relationships and depicts a genuine soul mate connection as “a relationship which makes you feel positive, an instant uplift of the spirit, energy boost up from within. A soul mate can be of the same gender, best friend, mother, father, sister, brother or anyone.”

And that’s not to say certain issues won’t manifest within this bond, but they’re easily amendable due to great levels of mutual understanding and compatibility.

Soul mates aren’t limited to one person; you can have several that play different roles throughout your lifetime.

The Twin Souls/ Twin Flame Connection:

The twin souls/ twin flame connection is a very special relationship. “Here, there is an instant attraction of energies, the energy of the two souls connecting over time, over miles, and sometimes over years,” Nagioff said. “Very often, there is an initial meeting of the twin souls and often one half of the duo is more spiritually awakened and ‘gets it.’ The other half may not be quite there, but nevertheless, they are deeply touched by the experience.”

She explains that, sometimes, contact remains, but there’s also the possibility that these two individuals will be separated over years. They work on their own commitments and deal with karma within other relationships before reuniting with each other once more. A “dance” is described, which depicts the inevitable connection and disconnection between twin souls.

“Within the connection, you often find that one party is very keen to move the relationship onto higher levels, whilst the other doesn’t know what’s going on and doesn’t want to deal with the relationship, as it touches deep and painful emotions that may have been suppressed. So they try to escape the relationship. The latter of the pairing is often referred to as a ‘runner.’”

Ultimately, the “runner” may come to a crossroads: he/she can live with the emotional pain of separation from their soul mate or return to the relationship and work through their unresolved fears.

According to Nagioff, the timing in twin soul relationships is crucial. “Twin soul connections never happen at convenient times. There is often the matter of existing and committed relationships, money issues, and a whole million other practical and logical reasons why these two, on the surface, shouldn’t be together.”

It appears that both parties have to exude patience and strength throughout the process.

Soul Mates. An idea that’s been adopted by romantics for ages; an idea that’s highlighted in our society and culture. Whether you buy into Plato’s ‘other half’ theory, or the alternative, nontraditional approaches, it can all be very intriguing “food for thought,” to say the least.
